I'm trying a new design "thingy"

I think auditioning the quilting is crucial to great quilting.
I have a clear dry erase board that I use for this. I skip taking the photo, and just lay the quilt top on the dining room table, the clear board over the top, and sit and doodle with the dry erase markers until i have a design I like.

Just a note: this works for auditioning quilt designs regardless of the method you will use to actually quilt it. Hand, machine, midarm, longarm, whichever way you do the quilting, it's great to have a good idea of the design before taking one stitch.
I started auditioning designs when I was hand quilting. I mostly used stencils and sometimes they looked good and sometimes not quite right. I found that it helped me to get the right size feather wreath on those plain blocks, and the right width of vines on that sashing!
I decided it would be better to look at the quilting design by putting it on the dry erse clear board over the block BEFORE stenciling it or quilting it. Sure is easier to erase a dry erase board than to rip out stitches.
