Bevanger, this is really easy sewing. I cut my strips 2 1/2 inches in width and the center squares were 2 1/2 inches. The outer pieces were overcut to 3 inches by 2 1/2 inches; 13 inches by 2'1/2 inches. I power pieced in assembly line fashion.
I always try to conserve thread by piecing in sections.
For the smaller unit, I did the center pieces first, pressed and trimmed the finished strip to 6 1/2 inches long with the contrasting middle piece centered.
Then it was really easy to power stitch the outer sections together; press and trim.
The other advantage to power stitching is the you can do a smaller amount the last time around and end up with the satisfaction of having completed X number of blocks already.
When I do the last sections, I select three to work on at a time. Do you side and then the last side. By the time the third block is sewn, you are ready to start on the next set of three. I feed off of the joy of seeing the completed blocks as I go along.
I am happy that this is the pattern you were looking for earlier.
Piecefully yours,
Kay Susan
