    Default Japanese Lantern

I copied an old quilt made by my grandmother. She used black borders and the black fabric has disintegrated. Her quilt was made in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. She made it before she married in 1905. I have it hanging on my stairway so it only shows about a quarter of it. I loved making it and pieced the lanterns by hand and appliqué them to the squares. I felt her with me every stitch of the way.❤️

What a fantastic pattern and story. Thanks for sharing.

Back when people dressed for mourning there was a lot of black fabric and it was used in quilts.
