Jelly Roll Race Quilt with a Silhouette
I made this quilt for our 6th GGC, who is a boy. I have always wanted to put a silhouette on a quilt and so I decided to do one on this baby quilt. The face profile that I used is the profile of the baby's older brother. I used a light-weight fusible web on black fabric, drew the silhouette and then fused it onto the top of my quilt. Before sandwiching the quilt, I used a blanket stitch that is available on my sewing machine and stitched the silhouette down to the top. I then sandwiched the top, batting and backing. Before I FMQ'd the quilt sandwich, I sewed a straight line of stitching all the way around the silhouette and then I did FMQing in an echo design on the silhouette and then FMQ'd the rest of the quilt. I used Hobbs 80/20 batting.
I was very apprehensive when I was stitching my silhouette down but I have to say that it went very well and the FMQing went quite well too. It has been the easiest quilt that I have made. I love it!

I love the addition of the silhouette. It finishes the quilt off perfectly. Lots of people do their cats or dogs. I love the idea of using the older brother's silhouette. It will give the two something to talk about later, and maybe pass on to one of their children if they don't love it to death.
