This will take a bit to enter, and I have several photos with explanations in between, so please be patient.
I had planned to make a quilt of valor for my third quilt, but some of my flying geese came out not perfect. So I put that kit aside for a later time. (When I have more experience.) I did not want to get frustrated at this point.
One of my nieces was about to become a grandmother, so I decided that I'd make a baby quilt for my third project. I had already purchased a simple pattern from McCall's some time ago, so decided to use that one for Rylee's quilt. It has applique, which I'd never done before, so I would learn something new. I wasn't in love with the bear that it had, so I found another one I liked. (Why would a newby go changing things right off the bat? )
I picked out my fabric, etc., and began this little journey of Rylee's quilt.
I cut out my pieces. Then I cut out my applique pieces. First I did the flowers. I love flowers, and that is a lot of fun. (Yes, I'm having fun making this little quilt!)

But I changed the bears and bees. I didn't love the big bee in the center of the pattern, so I decided to change up the bees, also. (There I go again, changing things.)

Next I made the two sets of 9 patches. What fun! By this time I'd totally forgotten the pattern and was going my own way. (Yet I didn't deviate too far from the original.)
