I am glad to hear the family history. My grandma quilted and I was always too busy (and kins of scared of her-I was still young). Anyway, I was just deciding that I was going to teach myself to sew, and she got fluid in her lungs. . . and pneumonia. . and stayed in the hospital for a while. . . She is still alive, thank goodness, but she hasn't sewn again since. This was back in 2000.

It just makes me want to teach more of my family to quilt. Most of my aunts know how to sew, they just don't, or they don't sew quilts. My mother wants to learn how to quilt. . .maybe. . .I almost have her convinced.

So. . . I taught myself how to sew, and quilt. I wish I would have had more help. I can't believe how difficult it is to teach yourself how to quilt or sew.

I still am looking for someone to teach me how to quilt by hand.

Henry-thanks for the family history story! I am glad you have quilting in your blood and that you are sharing your passion with other members of your family. Just think, when you all get together you can have your own quilt show!! Show and Tell will be fun at holidays and get-togethers.

Your scrappy quilt is wonderful. I think I need to adopt your 35 minutes a day rule. If I just got off the computer and onto the sewing machine I could get more done LOL

I wish my quilting by hand was better but my stitches are just too big. :(

Yeah the 35 minutes a day keeps me on track and gives me the outlet I need everyday to be creative. :)

Neat idea for a top, Henry! I'm glad you're making time for quilting.

I wonder how you'll work it in when daddyhood arrives. But you will, you will.

Thanks. Oh I will find a way to do it even when daddyhood arrives. I already have plans to teach my kids how to sew and quilt as they grow up. :)

i'm teaching my daughter (she's 7) and she and her 3 friends next door were drawing quilt squares with me on the driveway the other day...I told one of the girls that I would take her design and reproduce it for her on EQ5 and then maybe make it for her one of these days! Also teaching the girls and my son to handsew in exchange for knitting lessons from the 6 year old next door! Ya gotta pass it on :!: :!: :-)
