This quilt is beautiful. I am not the biggest fan of batiks, but I think this quilt gives the batiks a level of elegance that I find more in traditional fabrics. Very beautiful. The borders are all excellent and well placed. Did you decide to bind in black? Very, very pretty. Definitely looking forward to "finished" pics!

thank you and yes decided to do the binding in the black. i'm having a hard time trying to quilt it though. i used the 505 basting spray for the first time and i have wrinkles in the backing and top both. i'm not satisfied with the way that is going. so i'm thinking about taking the stitching out that i've done so far, un-sticking it and trying something else. but thank you for your compliments.

I wouldn't necessarily try something else yet. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about 505. I personally haven't tried it yet. I thought I got the same thing and didn't. I ended up with a "temporary" spray that's a permanent waste of money. But, it holds stuff together long enough that I can pin baste without basting in the wrinkles.
I wonder if you could try to restick it, but have enough people in the room to make sure it's good and taut. With my crappy spray that's what I have to do. But really, a lot of the quilter's on this board swear by that stuff and I find everyone most helpful here. If you search under spray basting, I'm sure there are TONS of threads about it.
JMHO...but only you know the best for your circumstances and your quilt. Spray basting or not, your quilt is simply beautiful. I tagged the pattern as something I would be willing to do with batiks. If you bring me over to the dark side, a couple of my batik happy quilting friends would be most delighted with you. They've been trying to convert me for ages!!

thanks mpeters and yes the 505 is not the problem - i'm the problem!
i was trying to do this by myself and i did not get it taut and i didn't have the walking foot on my machine at first. i intended on doing diamond shapes of stitching in each section - not FMQ, but it just has turned out a mess. so today i'm definitely going to pick out what i've already done, un-stick it and will probably have to soak it in soapy water then rinse water to get all the 505 out of it, then start all over. i'm much better at making the quilt top than i am at trying to quilt one but i can't afford to take all my quilts to a long arm quilter either but i may end up taking this one after all, the lady here is excellent at doing it. she's done a couple for me before. i'm a newbie to quilting anyhow, only been doing it for 2 years, wish i had started 50 years ago. and go ahead, surprise your friends and make something with batiks.
