Wow, you bring back memories...... One year (about 1945 or so, shortly after the war when things became available again) my dad took us out and we got my mother several of the "nicest" presents we could. My mom was absolutely quiet as we gave her each preseny.... until she began to cry. We kids gave her a wonderful big cookie jar (so she could/would make us cookies) and my Dad gave her an aluminum step ladder because the tall single-support wood fruit picking ladders were too heavy and too wobbly for her to use when washing windows around the house. She finally said something like she now understood how she fit into our lives... which just wasn't true. She was a wonderful, hard-working farmer/ranchers wife and was always there for all of us. Your kids are going to learn the same lesson of love from a much better angle. Lucky you and lucky your kids.
