    Thanks I am going with the same background color and "sashing" it. It works in that I am quilting as 1 block at a time, so will work out better.

    am I understanding you correctly that you wanted to something other than just a strip of sashing? what about making mini blocks likes the larger ones you already have and making sashing from those? You could even reverse the colors if you wanted.
