Very pretty!! (I'm trying to figure out how you sew them together without "Y" seams -- or do you?)

actually, you sew them together in strips. You make two half blocks... it's really hard to explain, let me see if I can get a pic up to explain a little better.

Ok, so you see the white gaps in between, that's because I haven't sewn them together yet, they're just pinned. Basically, you just sew them together in rows, you don't actually sew a whole hexagon to the next hexagon, they're put together in halves. I'm not sure I'm making myself clear, lol!

I googled it, and came up with this to explain a bit better how the pieces are cut. This site explains pretty much what I did. http://cadouri-din-inima.blogspot.co...and-again.html

You made it very clear!!! I thought everyone was sewing those little hexagons together and then putting them together in rows -- has been driving me crazy trying to figure it out (hubby would say that driving me crazy would be a short trip) but anyway, THANKS for the lesson!!! Now it makes sense and why everyone lays them out BEFORE they sew them in rows

ya, and that way you can play around with the placement, you know?

The next one I make will be much bigger than a wall hanging, so I will have more blocks to make a more fun arrangement. :)

Melanie, that is terrific! I love the bright colors. I like a big contrast in my Kaleidoscope blocks. And the size of the repeat determines the size of the block. Larger designs make larger blocks. When you find the size of your repeat, you can decide how many strips you cut it. I just bought some fabric that has a 24 inch repeat. I can cut it in 3, 4, 6, 8, or 12 inch strips, and each will give me a very different design.

Northcott is my FAVORITE fabric. It all, ok, most of it is REALLY soft! I love that stuff!
