Kaylee wanted a sewing machine for her birthday, so we got her the Barbie machine. We went to Hershey Park on her actual birthday (Friday, the 13th) so we had her first sewing lesson yesterday afternoon. I showed her the parts of the machine and she practiced sewing straight lines. She also made a block so that she could see how they piece together.

Before her lesson, we went to Joann's. I told her she could pick out a couple fat quarters to start her stash. I meant 2 or 3 but she talked me into 7 because she's now 7 yrs old. All you pre-washers would be proud, because as soon as we got home I showed her how to wash them!

Here are pics of her sewing and of her "stash".

Bless her sewing little heart! Look at her already sewing blocks!

I was like 40 when I first sewed on a sewing machine!

You realize, of course, that you are an enabler, consciously attempting to draw a young, unformed mind into this addiction that we all share! She sure looks happy about it, though! And frankly, this is a whole lot healther than so many other addictions we could have!

What did I start? Kaylee wanted to get her sewing machine out at 10pm and sew. I think my sewing room plans are going to have to get bigger.
