Rosy, I am starting a queen size lone star next week...all hot pink/black/white. I did a very small one recently, and am looking forward to doing it in large scale.

I think I have overcome my issues with the Y seams, and the joining of the center. I THINK!! :-)

I will post mine when I do it...and I'll probably be hollering for help!!

I love the colors in the one you are working on...they do have a great eye for pattern and color.

Rosy, that is just stunning! And to think you didn't really like it originally. It's beautiful! I have only done 1 Lone Star, but we are in Waco, TX where DH had a job interview today - we will know tomorrow. I just may have to make another one if he gets the job! This is the Lone Star State, after all.

    Your work is wonderful.

Be sure to post progress pictures, and I will too.
Oh good, it's not really that hard. After I joined four diamonds together (inset a 1/4 inch and then sew down to the star point).

I then sewed the two halves together, matching the center seam and all the diamond seams. It's not hard, the seams all nest together nicely. Here is the star complete.

Now it's time to set in the triangles. A square is cut at 33 3/4 inches and cut in four. There are four triangles and four squares.

Here you see the tri layed to show how it goes in. Now the the tri is turned on it's side to the star and that seam will be sewed from the point to center where the 1/4 inch set in is. Then the star is folded down and the other side sewed in. This is called a y seam or just a set in seam.

I will measure the seam going in and will make sure the same seam lenght is applied to the second seam as the tris are oversized and will need to be cut to square the quilt. The star will appear to float within its background and this is achieved by the oversize tris and squares, where the points will stop at the background but stay within with extra.

Thank you Kathy, I sure didn't like it too much but once it it came together, I changed my mind lol.

I sure hope you DH get that job. My pictures don't do it justice. When I get it all done I will take a pic outside in the sun so all fabrics can be seen. I has a foilage effect and it very lovely.

Oh my, the work is done now. Here it is with its background and all. Now you can see what I mean by floating the star. The background extends way beyond the point of the star.

I took some close up of the fabrics so you can see how pretty they are.

Tomorrow I will do two borders. I think they wanted the inner border to be the same fabric as the center star and the outside border to be the rust one with the leaves.

    Great value changes..
