I have these stick pins for jewelry making and I put some clear pink leaves on the eyelet end and gathered the curtains and stuck the pin through the gathers and put an end cap thing on the stick.
I saw on HGTV where the gal just used a heavy thread and sewed right through the gathers and knotted the thread. I also was thinking about putting two eyelet holes where I wanted to end the gathers and putting a piece of ribbon through them in a way that I could gather the curtains with the ribbon and bring the ribbon through the front of the fabric and tie a bow that could be seen from the outside of the valance. I'm so full of ideas I don't know why I don't retire and just make crafts all day long, LOL

I love butterflies and think these are beautiful. Sorry to hear you haven't been too well, and hope your feeling much better now.

I'm sorry I actually posted an answer earlier but it must not (obviously) have posted...
So I took some stick pins I use in jewlery making added a cl;ear pink leaf to the eye end of it, gathered the valance and stuck the pin through it and added a cap to keep it from coning loose.

But, I had a couple of other ideas you might like too! I thought about making to round button holes at the place the gathering would stop and using some fancy ribbon to wrap around the gathered part then run it from the back to front through the holes and make a pretty bow to hold the gathers. Or I saw on HGTV where they just used heavy thread to gather the curtains and then knotted the thread when they reached the desired gather. And they didn't do this but a nice wooden button or some other embellishment tied to the thread might be neat!
