    You probably do know! :thumbup:

    I believe it would fall into the category of some of the "folded fabric" techniques -

    Every one of the 225 light and dark blue 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares is "background," finishing at 1".

    Then the sails and the points on the bow and stern of the ship are additional 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares of red or white, laid face down on top of the proper background square, and folded over corner to corner.

    When the background squares are joined, the folded pieces get caught as well, forming a 3D "pocket" looking like a triangle.

    There are considerations of pressing the seams, because without some forethought, a lot of bulk can accummulate in spots. It was also a learning experience to get the folded bits to align correctly.

    But by the time I got to the end of it all, I had a pretty workable system going.

    And then the "bow waves" are prairie points set into the seams at the "waterline."

    I think I'll try making something a bit larger with this method - I think larger pieces might be easier to join, and more forgiving of small discrepancies than the mini pieces are.
