    Oh what a lovely treasure for your sister. I am sorry about your mother. I lost mine just after the twin towers fell. It is hard to deal with it still.

    I also love irises. I have a stand that are the most unusual garnet brown and yellow. A gift from the painter's who painted my house. I shared some fuchsia purple ones with him for his dad's garden and he sent these.. They of course have multiplied like crazy. Time to lift them this autumn.

    My condolences also on the loss of your mother.....yes, it is hard when you so want to share something with her and she is not here....in physical presence that is. I believe their spirit is with us always. Those are beautiful irises. It was very kind for the painter to follow up with these.

    Exquisite quilt and your sister is bound to get much comfort and joy from it. A really heartfelt, beautiful thing for you to do.

    I have some perennial Irises in my garden, hardy Algerian Iris....they bloom on short stems during our winter (now)...a real little patch of cheer on grey days.
