    I would use the same white that you have in the middle. I think you have plenty of dark and mediums , but only a bit of light value.

    I like the idea of black for the background. Maybe some flying geese in the compass colors in-between two black borders.

    This is fantastic!!!! Awesome work and no easy task for your very 1st PP, heck no easy task period. MC is one of my most favorite blocks. It is a challenging blocik to do and you did it proud. As others have suggested, audition some backgrounds. I would not use a color you currently have in the compass unless it is the very light you have on the inner ring of the compass. A very dark navy would really make the compass pop but so would a very light value as welll and if you matched that light it would give it the appearance of floating on the BG. I am sure whatever you decide will be spectacular.

    just stunning! what does the person who commissioned the work want for the background? I would ask them! BUT< I go for the dark blue, something mottled with black maybe!
