    Default Mario and Princess Peach

My son requested quilts for my grandchildren from the Super Mario Brothers game that he played as a child. (These are definately for him since the grandchildren are only one and three years old!) I wasn't thrilled with the request, but ended up having alot of fun making them. He found 8-bit pictures on the internet, and I drafted them onto graph paper for the pattern.

Mario is stitched in the ditched with 12 random FMQ spiderwebs. I used a medium-loft polyester, and it was hard not getting tucks where the intersections met.

I got smarter with Princess Peach. I started in the middle and ditch quilted in a spiral going outward. That way there were no intersections to cross. I added FMQ curly hair and texture to her dress.

This was my first try at free-motion quilting without marking the top first. Spiderwebs and curls aren't supposed to be perfect anyway, right?

You are wonderfully clever. The quilts are simply adorable and even tho the children are young, they are going to enjoy them as will your son. Very impressive work.
