I have some beatiful gem tone polyester fabric and was going to make either 8" of 10" squares with them and call it good, I think the colors will make the quilt, not sure if that is something you would like to do, but I think it is easy and effective.

it has the same feel as the dresden plate, but it'll go faster without the applique.
