I ended up ordering several shades of cream in 1/4 yard increments from the site PittsburgPam recommended. I also ordered 6 yards each of the cream and a "yellow" from another website that looks close. I figured I'll use 'em down the road, they are a good basic to have. And, the "yellow" was only 3.50 a yard, so I can use it for practice squares and FMQ.

i'm trying to decide if i can get away with kona navy instead of indigo.
i would buy the bolt of navy because you can always use some navy in the stash but i don't think i'd need an entire bolt of indigo.
decisions, decisions, decisions.

I think for the DJ the indigo is just a bit more interesting than the navy...IMHO. I love the idea of a dark neutral vs. the light...it allows you to play with more whites, which is lots of fun!!

If it's about the dollar value of the fabric, I think the Navy is a "go", but if you want your DJ to be as "you" and as perfect as you can make it (which is my goal), then you have to chose what you can afford, and get what's going to make you smile the most!! I'm thinking you want the Indigo, so go for it!!

i think so too, i have so much money in fabric and software to make this quilt that a few more bucks doesn't matter one bit.
i really just want a quilt that my loved ones will enjoy for generations.
99% of my work is sold, this quilt will be 1 of the 3 quilts my family will actually own.
i've actually informed my clients that i am not accepting any work orders Jan-Jun 2010 just so i can work on this quilt.
thank god i'm doing Post Doc work and can kinda set my own hours in the lab.

It's a big undertaking but I think every quilter wants that one (two, three) quilt in her/his lifetime that is going to be cherished, treasured and preserved through the family. I totally understand that and I've posted before of what am I going to leave this world of ME? My dishes? My furniture?
I would rather it be a quilt that I leave.

That's exactly how I feel about my quilting - the way I will be remembered. It's one of the reasons why I carefully label the back of every quilt I make
-the name of the quilt
-who it was made for
-the event (usually a wedding or baby or birthday)
-where they live
-made by
-my name
-where I live
-the date
