variegated thread would be great and you could even do some beads or buttons to really highlight the folding work.
    Thank you Klue

OK so you suggest variegated - now I shall have to send out the search party to find some.
Yes - beads would look really nice sewn onto the folded areas. That would mean doing it by hand wouldn't it - what stitch would you suggest Klue?

when i do beading its typically one of 2 ways.

if its individual beads i'll use invisible thread doubled thickness thru the needle. i take 2-3 straight stitches thru the bead depending on heavy the bead is.

if i want to do a row of beads - i pull the needle up thru the fabric and then string all the beads on it. then i put the needle down into the fabric exactly where i want the string of beads to end.

then i come in with another needle that has double thickness invisible thread and i put a stitch going across the string of beads in between each bead.

i do all the bead work before i make the quilt sandwich that way all the stitching from the beads is hidden.

you just have to be careful when quilting - i've busted a few beads in my day with the machine needle.

WOW, I've never seen a Mexican Star before, looks complicated. Hand stitching where the pins are?

    very different and striking.

I am contemplating hand stitching the curves back, not too sure yet.
