This quilt top I just finished piecing is kind of a mix and matched top. The rail fence parts were originally sewn together and made up my first quilt top. However, I ran out of the darkest fabric in the railfence set so I couldn't make it any larger.

The center star ('Star Lane' from Quilter's Cache) I made for the potholder swap, but it came out WAY too big. So I threw some side strips on it, detatched the two pieces from my rail fence and framed it with those.

The end result is, I think, quite pretty. I'm very pleased with it, and it's cool to see my first piecing surrounding my current piecing.

Now to figure out what to do with it when it's finished. No one I know really likes blue...maybe I'll just keep it for me then!
