I didn't have much luck with the 10 minute block either at first- even though I pinned & pinned it never layed quite flat- it was always a little "baggy" on the front. I solved this by sewing the last seam in 2 parts. I pin then sew from the edge just through the middle then repin & sew from the middle through the other edge. They came out a lot better this way.

I made 2 mug rugs, and 2 doll quilts using 2" cut fabric for 3" finished (5 blocks) 10 minute block. Very fiddly. but, I did not curve them. They do need to be perfectly square, with exactly matching seam widths, or they get a little wonky.

If I understand you, you are using 5" charms. My experience with the very small blocks is, they tend to "hover" above the quilt. I think with larger blocks (larger even than 5") you can control the height (above the quilt) because you have more fabric to work with. Harder to control in the smaller blocks.

When I did a block like this, I curved the edges under and then stitched down around the edge. I didn't trust that I could get the edges folded up and over evenly.

I have better luck if the fabric is starched.

forgot to say that the group have been putting a small square of a different colour in the cathedral window shape. Mine was just the pattern on the material that caused that look. I also when you find mine did the 4 main square by making 3 stripes in them. .

Hi Don't be hard on yourself. I have found the solution to the uneven middle is to stitch from the centre out both ways . This lets you secure a straight edge for the final seam.

I think you are doing great. I'm in the process of making my 1st 10-minute block quilt and have been seeing the same thing.. I'm not so sure it this isn't normal...lol so I'm just keeping it going and hope all will look normal in the end.

I have done the 10 min block a few times. enjoyed this.. I am a nut about dimensions.. was in the engineering world for a long time.. don't be too unhappy.. does not look like a mistake for a seam ripper.. ( have gone through seam rippers plenty in my sewing time)

Keep on working.. use the same size square material for all five squares. fold in half exactly and it all works out.. maybe pin as you go.. it might be from shifting fabric.

have perfect points.. but then.. I talk a whole lot of time.. I am just amazed of the idea to flip the fabric and Wwwahhh Laaah.. the things comes out ! Amazing.
