I am working on a QAYG framed hexagon project after completing
several QAYG hexagon quilts and projects. There are many websites that have options for you to consider. Since she has made them into "flowers" I would assume she wants a floral motif <although there are several diamond or more intricate designs.> I have started using the sewing machine to finish some of the framed hexagons with one of the decorative stitches on my sewing machine
<that can be an option if you do not find hand stitching relaxing.>
I am off to get breakfast for hubby and will try to do a post with pictures later. I am a lurker and this is my first post.

I did a quilt like this several years ago. The entire quilt is the hexagons. I would get a fabric to create a background for the flowers and have her make the hexagons that could be stitched between the flowers. She can make the entire quilt.

How absolutely wonderful that she wanted to do something and NOT GIVE UP. Well done :thumbup: Stunning designs in there. Happy sewing in putting those together. Looks like a HUGE amount of scraps you gave her :lol:

this is one of my favorite patterns. My brother had a babysitter who we called grandma yodel who would sit and make the hexagons watching TV or wherever. I was totally fascinated watching her. this may have been my first introduction into quilting. I was probably 11-12 years old. Your mother's work is beautiful.

Sorry, that took longer than I thought...Here are some examples of what I was trying to communicate earlier about QAYG framed hexagons. I did do an "Amish" hexie flowers<not framed> with black hexies around all the flowers for an ROTC raffle that turned out beautifully, but I did not save a picture of it.
You could always applique the flowers in the middle of the QAYG blocks. If there are silk flowers in the stash, if you applique, it will hold up as appliqued.
