I decided to make a 9 patch with quilt as you go so I could get the hang of that concept. Well, needless to say I am applying the "man on a galloping horse" rule, but overall I am happy with how it turned out. It is a gift for a long-time friend of mine's daughter. It's twin size and I'll be making a pillowcase to go with it this afternoon. They have recently relocated back to their roots in Iowa and finding jobs has been a challenge, so I thought a quilt might perk the daughter up and a bowtucks will do wonders for the mom.

I really like the QAYG method but I don't like the look of the sashing part, so am going to try again only just sewing the sqs. together with stitch in the ditch for the final sewing. If that doesn't work I may do the back with hand stitching. Just thinking out loud here.

Looks great. What a thoughtful gift.

I'm on the same wavelength as far QAYG goes. Always sashing is a drag and gets to feeling too rigid and defined. Going to try the sash-free methods as well.

I have been thinking about some bigger quilts. I want to make some but hand quilting won't work very well for me. I think I would get too tired and my hands would get too sore. I have machine quilted my baby quilts, but I just have a regular sewing machine, and am living on very tight money(Disabled Early due to Kidney Disease)and don't see any in the future. (Medical Bills) So I want to try this. I like the look of the sashing, so I hope I can do this sometime soon!
