Beautiful. This quilt has a lot of movement. Very nice.

I saw the pattern in my friend's book called "Weekend Scrap Quilting". That pattern though was for a 14" appliqued block. You took a 14 1/2" square of white material, cut out the 8 star points, and used spray adhesive to glue them to the material and then zig zagged around them. I made my own pattern for a 9" 8 Point Star and 9" Square-in-a-Square block to use instead. Thank you for your interest.

Thank you Kim! As for your question, I have no idea! I had been quilting for about 9 months when I decided to try to make an 8 Point star that I'd seen on eBay. Again, I had no pattern. (I have a bad habit of not using patterns.) My Mom told me to use them at least until I learned what I was doing, but I told her that I can't find patterns for the quilts that I see in my head.

Anyways, I just made one like I saw. I made it a 6" to see if I could even do it. Here's a picture of my VERY first attempt. I was totally amazed that it turned out so well. And, every since then, most come out looking pretty good. Some are a little off, but I still think they are beautiful.

When I'm making 8 Point Stars or Carpenter's Stars or anything where the center has to line up, I just put a pin in the
"joining" point, (for lack of a better word), or each block. Keep the pin straight with one hand and pin about 1/8" from it to keep the points together and then sew. Do Not remove the pin until you have passed the "joining" point. Remove pin and finish sewing. That's all I can tell you. Oh yeah, and try to make sure that you keep a straight 1/4" seam so that the two "joining" points are the same distance from the edge of the fabric.

Here's a picture of my first 8 Point Star, believe it or not. (I swear it really is though.) Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Well, I'm still making this right now but I have it figured out to be approximately 91" x 109". I have all my 50-- 8 Point stars made and 25 of my 49 Square blocks made.

I don't have a quilting machine and it's really hard to try to quilt it on my regular machine and kitchen table in my sewing room. (Even with the ironing board there as a table extension.) :-P
I will probably either put the top on eBay to sell it or I will hand tie it like so many other ones I've done.

It's going to be so pretty but we don't use quilts around here. We are both to hot at night for that. I either sell them, give them away, or stick them in trash bags and store them in the closets. Sad, huh???

    Yes. I'm making this one 9 x 11 blocks. With a 5" border it would be 91" x 109". (6"=93" x 111") They are 9" blocks.
    I like 6" borders best I think, like the ones on My Latest Projects, Jacob's Ladder's. (2", 1", & 3")
