So precious! And one can see that your Alexa already has a good eye for combining color and texture and she did a great job on matching up her squares!

What a beautiful smile you helped put on your grandaughter's face. She made good use of the scraps. Hope you post a picture when she's finished with this great quilt.

Hook the boy also! Boys between 8 and about 12 (varies) are often fascinated with sewing machines. My GS pieced his first quilt at age 8 and is after me to do another (he'll be 14 in October). Since he's home-schooled we may be able to do it this fall!

3 is pretty young, but my 7 year old GS made a paper quilt... choose a picture which we traced, choose scraps from my "tiny scraps" bin and cut them out and I put them on sticky backing, we placed them together onto a 14" sq backing (he choose which color) and it turned out fantastic!

My GD (10) made her first quilt at the same time, but she "escaped" and did the quilting herself; not so good, but who cares! She is proud and her mama was thrilled, with both the quilt and the brother's quilt picture.

Your granddaughter has a right to be proud. She did a great job with colors and sewing!

Oh my, that brings back memories of me making a hand stitched block with two of my now grown up granddaughters, teaching the now teenaged girls to make yoyo's, and my own grandma teaching me to embroider tea towels. As others have said, teaching a child to sew is more than teaching a useful skill, it's making memories that last a lifetime.
