I've been asked by a friend to donate a block or two to a wedding quilt she's making for a mutual friend. I thought that since it's only a couple of blocks, I'd try something a little more difficult than I usually would do. Here is the first block. Although I'm happy with it, I am a little disappointed that the points and joints aren't more precise. I'd always heard that paper piecing insured accuracy. Oh, well, I've always said that I'm a slapdash quilter.

PP can improve hard points, but you have to pin when you join the sections to get good matching at the sections. I pin PP sections different then any way I have seen done, but it works for me. I poke the pin straight through both layers at the exact 1/4 inch seam line w/ the pin pointing down on the leading end (first one to go into the machine) and poke a pin straight through the seam sew line pin pointing up on the back side of the edge. Make sure the pins point straight up and down and don't "squew or twist" then take the first pin out being careful to hold the fabrics in place. I use the rear pin as "steering" stick as I sew until it gets close enough to need to be removed.

PP is very precise but sewing some PP blocks together can still be challenging. As Kassaundra said pins are sometimes necessary. Also sometimes the way you press the seams can determine whether the points line up exactly or slightly off. Good luck with the next block. Are you sewing these on your Rocketeer machine!

Great block! You are right about paper piecing being accurate but not where the pieces are joined. I pin like Kassaundra with thin pins for accuracy, some people use a little bit of white glue.
