I think this pattern would be ideal for a beginner. It's really very easy to do and follows a simple stair-stepping pattern. It's not complicated at all (which is why I choose it :D ).

That is absolutely beautiful! I love the feel of the ocean it gives. Some day I want to try a bargello, but I have a lot more experience to gain first.

Eddie, You are like the World's great chiefs that take what is tradionally a woman's job and make it a work of art. I bow to your accomplishments. Fantastic quilt.

Eddie, Could you repost this quilt laying on the bed. I'd love to see that. I'm wondering if it "feels" like the waves moving across the bed.

I am laughing so hard now!!!! MY first Bargello quilt actually HAD waves in it!!! I was a newbie quilter and I was so excited that I sewed it all together before the instructor gave us the warning to sew in one direction, then IN THE OTHER so as to avoid stretching it out and...tada....getting waves in the fabric! I was so embarrassed but I took it into class and had to ask "WHAT HAVE I DONE????" The class was made up of a couple of newbies but mostly women who had been quilting for upwards of 25/30 years! They tried to calm down their giggles as it was explained to me. Needless to say, I learned a great lesson that day! The best part of it was that I am no longer embarrassed when something goes awry. I know there is an answer that will help me in future quilts so I am learning all of the time. I had to put the waving quilt away for a bit but one night, I had a vision! I put the waving quilt down and took out a 6 1/2 inch square and cut out wherever I could find a flat piece to go under it. With the resulting 6 1/2 squares and some extra material, I made a beautiful quilt that looked like a kimono! I always take a picture of the quilt and a part that I still have that is still wavy and show it to my beginning/intermediate quilting class that I teach to show them you must laugh and learn and never feel badly about whatever comes out of the fabric. Sometimes we just have to listen a bit harder to the fabric as it always seems to know what IT wants to be!!! Your quilt is gorgeous! Keep quilting and showing us your beautiful work! :-D 8-) :P

Gorgeous quilt, Eddie. Got an undulating sensation while I was looking at it. Great job. I don't blame your wife for wanting to keep it.
