I have to book "Painless Paper-Piecing" by Marjorie Rhine and she had the same complaint--bulky seams. She has a different technique for paper piecing using very few pieces of paper. The way she does it you can press the seams anyway that does not create bulk.
this was the carol doak way, but not her pattern. at ninnie's insistence (that pest) i bought the cd and learned the technique. at this point in my paper piecing career, i can't imagine making an entire queen quilt this way.
I know what you mean I made about 50 of these blocks and decided that I would find a different/easier block to go with it. I was sooooo tired of sewing and ripping paper...

    ;-)

    Hi,

It looks good to me! I am not sure I could do PP. May try it sometime on something not as detailed. Your colors are really nice.

Looks great for your first block!! Gorgeous fabric choices! I want to learn paper piecing, just haven't gotten around to buying a book yet. Haven't decided which one I should get anyways.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with this block!

That darn paper piecing is addicting! I am just learning through the newbies challenge and my sewing room looks like a fabric shredder got in here! Sure is addicting tho. I love the precision of the blocks.

I think it looks great! I understand what you mean about the bulk in the center. I had that problem with the palm trees on the Beach Cottages quilt I did.

Maybe one of our resident experts would have a hint about how to reduce the bulk. Anyone?

I think it looks great. The colors are fantastic. Are you making enough squares for a quilt? I think that would be beautiful.
