Most of this has been practice in sewing 1/4" seams, sewing straight lines, cutting accurately... none of which I did perfectly. But if I wanted a perfect quilt, I'd buy one made in China, right?

I disagree about the China part, as their quilts or goods for that matter are anything but perfect all the time. They make them too quickly in their sweat shops to get through their quota per day. If you wanted the perfect quilt (which isn't going to happen because we aren't perfect) you would pay attention to detail and take care when cutting as far as possible. Of course those darn physical disabilities such as arthritis and poor eyesight as we age just make it so much harder to do all the time.
Great first job by the way, I think your quilt looked lovely.
