i like sash rods ...they come with hangers and hang close to wall

I like to use the dowel rod size that will fit into a large wooden bead to finish off the ends. I use strips of fabric about 2-1/2" wide for the hanging loops like on "tab-top" curtains.

I use small adjustable curtain rod. They come with the hanging brackets which make the hanging process much eaiser.
