You probably have one of the better Singers. I was told they sold out a few years ago and the quality is not there any more like it used to be. I like her....she is a keeper!

I have to agree about the older "workhorses". I have an old Montgomery Wards machine with drop-in cams. I LOVE that machine. It has all metal parts and I can sew almost anything on that machine. My mom bought it used in the early 1970s and gave it to me when I left for college. My first quilt was made on that machine.

My dh bought me a Singer when we got married because he thought newer was better. I ended up giving it away because it was so crappy.

Your machine looks like a sweetheart. My 37 year old 830 Bernina is still sewing her heart out too. I got a new mid-range Pfaff 4 years ago, and she is in the shop now, her motherboard went out and of course she waited until the warrenty is run out. I have real old Pfaff, made somewhere in the 1940-mid 50's, that is my backup machine. It has all metal parts and a chain drive. When I had it serviced the guy said it was made in Germany long time ago, so maybe in the '40's. Like you I won't part with my old babies.

I have a Singer Athena 2000 which I got in the late 1970's, love this machine, it is a workhorse. I have a new machine (not a Singer) but I still go back to that Singer. You have a great machine.

Don't ever feel embarassed using your Singer sewing machine. I have never used anything but Singer brand machines. They have always been excellent machines, and I've always been able to make very nice things on them. Personally I can't imagine spending a small farm down east on a sewing machine. I don't need my machine to do everything but the dishes for me.
Don't worry what others 'think' - if they look down on your Singer, they are name brand snobs.

My favorite machine is an old Singer with a knee control . I just love the knee control, I wish they still made them. My old Singer never fails me.

And I have a 1936 Singer 221-1, as well as a couple of others. But I use the old machine. I agree - they don't make 'em like they used to. This way she gets to be the "old lady" in the house instead of me!
