    necessity is the mother of invention. For a stopper, put a triangle pencil eraser on the end. I taped mine on my thread holder and it kept the thread from falling off.

    I needed my thread to be upright so I put it in a large jelly jar and then took apart a pants hanger, bent it together and used 100 mile an hour tape (duct tape) to secure it to the outside of the jar - it becomes my thread guide. Crude but effective - take it to class and all. Need the weight of the jar to keep the spool from tipping over when I put my machine into 5th gear!
