Sorry I haven't responded sooner, but I have been super busy and away from a computer.
The patterns came from the books "Block Magic" and "Block Magic Too". The train was basically one that I made up. It wasn't hard to make the cars. The engine was made from a picture that I saw. The caboose was made up as I went. The whole quilt was made up as I went actually. I had no idea what the next row would be until I did it. There is no applique in it at all.
The more I worked on it, the more I liked it. The train engine going in the quilt itself was a last minute idea. I even took part of it apart to add it at the top. I thought the tracks looked a little funny just going through it so I put a train on it.
I don't know if I will make another one like it, but it was sort of fun making it. If I did one for myself and my interests............it would be filled with sewing machines!! I also do upholstery work so I sew with my business and still sew as a hobby.
I have a scrappy quilt in progress that I want to get finished. I think that is my next project ........to finish all the WIPs that I have before starting a new one. I believe I have 5 that are not finished.
Thanks to everyone for their kind remarks about the quilt. I was so glad to get this one finished.

WOW, that is one amazing quilt. Loved that you "just did it" as you went along. No pattern, no pre-designing. That's pretty much what I do as well. Each quilt I make is unique to the person it is for & no two are ever alike. I have no idea when I start what the finished quilt will look like. So far, I have been pleased & so has the recipient.
