I had to redo the spikes and just finished. Tomorrow I will try to do three, as I have to see the fit and then I will upload the pattern.

You did a great job drafting, but if you don't want to do it again, Inklingo has that pattern.

Ok, I had to redo the spikes and here is the first Pickled Lady. I will now make two more to make sure it all fits and then I will upload the templates.

The first pic shows the clamshell and the collar. The second pic shows the collar pinned to the clam, right sides together. I lined up the middle, then pinned each side. At this point it is very important to line up the side seam allowance of the collar, to the seam allowance of the clam, stick the pin through the dots.

The third pic show the back, see the points of the collar sticking out? that is the correct way.

The fourth pic show the lady all pickled lol. Looking at the right side, see how that collar need to go just a hair more down? That's why it's important to stick that pin through the dots. I must have missed a bit.

Having said all that lol. Isn't it pretty? I love it. The block is going to end up at 7.5. I didn't plan on a size really. I just knew I didn't want it too small because of the tiny spikes on the collar. I think this size shows it off nicely. You will be able to enlarge the pattern, if you want a larger block.

Ok back to make two more to see the fit.

Ok, I think the pattern is working. The three clams fit together nicely. These are not sewed together. I just layed one on top of the other, taking in the seam allowance.

There are 11 spikes, the spike in the middle needs to line up with the middle of the two clams, once they are sewed together. Now, I have to try to remember how to sew them together.

Those are some beautiful images Kalama. Now that I have the pattern, I can use it over and over and the satisfaction that I drafted it myself makes it more personal to me.

I did read about Inklingo's pattern and I was a bit turned off about printing on the fabric. I didn't get it. It's just a template really. Then I prefer to paper piece the collar and not sew all those little tri's. I see they give a lot of instructions and three sizes and that is very good for a beginner who needs it. I think they sell that pattern for 30.00.

I know that money is kinda scarce, so I am posting the pattern here, just for our community, for anyone to use, anyone who quilts can make this from my template and pp pattern with very little instruction and just what I post here.

The clamshell has been around for ages, and some very talented lady, way back when, decided to put spikes on it. The pickled lady is a good name for this new/old clam lol.

I will be using just about anything in my scrap drawer. Notice I didn't say bin? That's because, small stuff is in the bin and the drawer has larger pieces, you will need larger, unless you want to make rogue ladies (that means that all the spikes are different..) Oh the possibilities.
