Nope. I just used a looser tension on my thread and it really worked well. You can see spots of the gold on the back where the looser tension was drawn down, but that's ok with me.

Lol, oh no, I'm a "sister". DH is just modeling the panel for me. I was taking the picture so I needed someone to hold it for me.
