I'm so sorry. This happened to me. It was the landloard's falt. lossed most of my books cutting mats and fabric. Landloard has not payed me back yet and my insurance put the blame on him.

Make sure you include EVERYTHING that may have even gotten damp!

Call the adjuster back if necessary!

Some of your books may be salvageable (SP??). put a sheet of paper towel in between each page and put them in the freezer. you need to do this before they start mildewing. of course, any that are still in print can be replaced (hopefully) by the insurance.

If your fabrics are cotton, most of them should be okay. Just a drag to get them washed and dried again.

I'm so sorry. I think about power surges, hurricanes, twisters, and thieves, etc. but to have to wonder if the ppl above you, have left their water on...(((Hugs)))...your stuff will probably all get replaced, but your peace of mind is worth a lot too.
They should also replace a reasonable amount of income loss, too!
Oh my...these machines are like our pets...I think I am going to hug mine, now. Keep us up to date, Quilt. We want to know that things with you are ok. :)

I'm so sorry and I do know how you feel. Something similar happened to me in May. It took a few months to get everything back in order, but I got a new sewing room in the end. I hope it doesn't take long to get everything cleaned up so you can get back to sewing.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this...what a bummer. Do let us know how it turns out. And the plug you gave for renter's insurance is very important. My DD and SIL lost almost everything in an apartment fire a few years ago. A kid playing with fire crackers set a bush on fire, which set the building on fire. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Twelve families lost some possessions, my daughter and the apartment next door took the brunt of the damage and lost almost everything, including three quilts made by SIL's grandmother. Only one other family besides them had renters' insurance. They were able to get back on their feet again with the insurance check.

you should talk to her insurance co. about sending someone in to "air out" your apt. we had something like this happen to us. we live on the bottom floor someone on the top (third) floor behind us caught their dryer on fire and the spinklers went off. 60 gallons of water a second makes a HUGE mess when they are going off for about an hour. everything in my cabinets had to go, my sewing machine got wet, a computer, bunches of fabric. They had to have a restoration company come in and bring big fans and make sure that everything got dried out in the right amount of time (before mold could grow) becaue mold grows VERY easy in drywall. which can cause health problems down the road!

I hope they pay up and do it FAST!!!! Good luck!
