Thanks for posting this extremely important event in your and your son's life. It's a treasure beyond words to have a son or grandson learn to quilt with you. Your pictures are precious. They brought tears to my eyes remembering when my 9 yr. old Aspersers grandson wanted to make a quilt for his Mom. What joy it brings me to look at the pictures I took of that event. He, too, loved sewing on my feather weight. Congratulations to you!

In college, my boyfriend was normally appointed the master carpenter when we both attended classes in the technical section of the Theater Arts dept. He always stuck me sewing the backdrops. FINALLY, I was chosen as the master carpenter and I asked him nicely to sew the backdrops. I told him that a DSM is really a power tool. I was so pleased with the final results because there wasn't even one pucker in the entire sewn drop. It seems that it was at least 6 panels (120" wide fabric) and must have been 40 yards in length for each panel but I learned to measure a yard from my fingers to my nose slight turned away from the finger. The things we learned from college that hasn't been forgotten.

I would have been happy to share sewing space with my sons, but alas, they had no interest.... not even a little. So, I'm a little jealous but so happy for you to share your love with Gus. And, a man that can take care of himself, sewing, cooking, cleaning, etc. is very sexy....... and too many girls don't know how these days.

It's nice to start them early, and when they express an interest. I have to agree that sharing space could be problematic at times, but you managed a solution. So happy to see a young boy learning to quilt.
