If you go to an auto supply store, you can buy a product called Gojo hand cleaner. There are several by Gojo, so be sure to buy the no pumice one. That way, you won't be using anything abrasive on it. Then, you just gently rub the Gojo on it, watch it turn to a liquid, and then gently rub off the Gojo with a soft cloth. It takes time, and patience, but in the end, you haven't damaged it.
If you do use sewing machine oil, be sure to clean it all off, since it will attract more dirt.
Beautiful little machine!

Here is one like it on ebay. And I agree with others use only sewing machine oil on it. I have a Muller that I cleaned and didn't use just oil. It wasn't in that great of shape but I did lose a little of what decals were left.
