Talking My Underground Railroad Quilt ala Eleanor Burns

Our local quilt club just finished a block-of-the-month using the Underground Railroad pattern book by Eleanor Burns. It was a really fun quilt to make.

Although I tried to follow most of Eleanor's instructions in the book, some of the blocks I just had to do the easy way. LOL I also purchased the curved pressure foot to do the drunkard's path which actually made it very easy to do.

I also wanted to give it a sort of attic windows look cuz I imagined the people involved looking for clues through the windows of the homes (like a candle in the window).

I love sampler quilts cuz as a new quilter I get to try various blocks that stretch my comfort zone (like applique and curved piecing).

I used fabric from the Mill Brook Collections fat quarter bundle. I still need to find some backing fabric for this quilt and then I'll either machine or hand-quilt it.

Good job! Looks so homey and comfy. I like your explanation of why you chose to do the Attic Windows setting. My favorite block (I am all about giving myself choices --haha) is the first block on the second row. Not sure the name of the block or if it's Eleanor's own? Do you have a favorite block?

I really like samplers and yours is really striking. I like the choice of block patterns. I also like your attic windows setting and I like the border print for the outer border. This is a great keeper.

Beautiful quilt. You did a great job and I love the attic window idea. I too love sampler quilts-it gives you a chance to try new blocks.

Just great! I love the setting ! I made this quilt with a block of the month group. It was a learning experience for me since there were many techniques I had not learned yet. The curved piecing was my most difficult task (and still is). I haven't heard of or seen the curved foot. I'll have to look into it for my machine.
