What a find. I know my aunt had feedsacks with the flowers on lavender.
I was given a similar sort of project a couple of years ago. I consulted with a local fabrics expert who confirmed that the fabrics were originals. I was unsure whether I would decrease their value by finishing the quilt and was told that I would not. The finished quilt went to a local textile museum. IMHO hand applique is more forgiving than blamket stitch embroidery, as any irregularity really shows up. I would tend to put an appliqued circle in the center, as, in my opinion, it is somewhat easier to applique that than to reverse applique for the open center. If you are not comfortable with the applique, please practice on something else.
Congrats again.

You really got a deal!! One thing we tried when our sewing group was given some old lovely blocks like this was applique them on unbleached muslin. It lasts forever and has that old timey feel to it. Then you can find maybe a solid color or even a retro print to set it and carry out the feel of the old blocks. They really made material in those days. Hope this helps. Marvel

They look identical the ones I found in my moms sewing room after she passed away....has to be 40's. I made a baby quilt for my first DG out of these pieces. My DD has it put away now that the DG's are older...
