I am working to repair one of similar time and I see some of the same fabrics. Black geometrics in lower left of picture are 1940. I am needle turn applique-ing mine from a background that is "staining" onto a new background of off white. I will probably do a striaght set and see what happens. I have 20 blocks. I have been doing the needle turn while the TV is on and have made fairly good progress. Good luck. What a great find!

Thanks everyone. AlienQuilter, that site sure gave me lots to think about. Now I'm more confused than ever, ha.

My Granny used to get her scrap fabrics from the local shirt factory. She made lots a Dresden Plate quilts and others. When she passed I was fortunate enuf to get some of her scraps.

Great find! I'd hand appliqué them on to solid background squares, set them with or without sashing, consider borders, and quilt! One long-term UFO!

Make sure that you starch them well before you try to applique them as some of that old fabric may be a little limp or flimsy. I just finished preparing an old set of Dresdan plates that I was given and used a muslin for the background squares and yellow for the centres. Now I am debating about the sashing. I may use a reproduction thirties print or some of the yellow from the centres as I don't have any of the fabric used in the fans.

Hi those are awesome. The easiest way to finish and make quilt blocks with is to sew these sections to iron on interfacing, rough side to right side of fabric...cut away 1/8' around, turn right side out and iron to a 12' block. Then do the same with a circle for the middle and iron on, then blind hem around the edges of all. This is what I just did for the egg money quilt by Eleanor.
