I am sorry, I did not measure the fabric but I did use total of 24 ties for both hangings and pillow. I measured either 6 or 9 inches of each end of tie and used the middle for the pillow. I rotated the ties big then little and so on so each hanging had the same tie but different sizes. You can see on my pictures what I mean :) Hope this helps.

Very interesting, so bright and happy looking. The silkness of them makes it hard to sew at times right? I have gotten bags of ties and cut them several different ways in order to in my future make a larger quilt. I have a strip square done. I love the dresden plate pattern and like the way you did yours, thin piece, wider piece. Thanks for sharing.

Now mine was a sample square as you can tell. Judy my friend in our quilt group taught me about this one of hers.
She cuts some off both ends, you can use later for something else like prairie points. Then cuts several inches off the fat part above the pointed section to use later. Cuts the threads holding the rest of tie together and pulls out the stuffings. Oh save the name tag also, you can see she put them in corners of her quilt squares. If you go to a thrift shop you can find some neat ties with expensive names on the back. Wash the tie and iron to see what you have then you can do the strips. I got several ties the other day from the Goodwill pound store cheap and they are in washer right now. I keep thinking one day I might find a diamond stud left on one of them :) Hope all this helps.
