That's a fantastic idea, I might have to start collecting ties. It's first slik quilt I have seen too.

These are beautiful quilts. I once had an idea for doing that with my late father's ties, but my son was at such an age as to wear them --loud, crazy ties that my dad was famous for. So of course, they are probably long gone, as the kid is now 40 and probably left them in a storage unit somewhere along the way!

What great quilts for your daughters. Did you use an iron-on interfacing or just go with whatever came out of the wash? Thanks.

I used a white bed sheet cut into 8 inch squares. Used a rotary cutter to cut across the ties, opened them up, then ironed, making "strips" of material. One strip placed face up on the white square with a little longer strip on top of it facing down. Ran a stitch on the right side, opened it up and ironed flat. Turned the square and put a slightly larger strip face down over the first two, ran a stitch on the right...kept repeating the process until the white square was covered with tie material. Trimmed any overlapping material on the sides to make the square "square". I pinned the squares to sew into rows, then pinned and sewed the rows to complete the quilt top. I did most of this at night when I couldn't sleep. Found it very relaxing making the quilts.

Beautiful! A new pattern I haven't seen using ties. People seem to usually go with strings (long strips) cut the length of the tie when they are using ties. It's refreshing to see them sewn this way, it seems by cutting across the width of the opened tie. Well done!

The only tie quilts I have seen is the whole tie or partial shape. Really innovative and different.
