I am making this quilt for a friend who has been there for me through a sad divorce. My husband left me after 30 years so he could do what he wanted to do (work and run marathons). Trish prayed for me and supported me so I needed to make her a quilt. I would like to know if I should do a border or not? If so, what kind? The red and white bowtie is something I started before my mom passed and I just had the desire to take it out and finish it. I need to take it to be quilted.

I Think a border would finish it of very nicely.
Ummm....... Do you have a fabric that combines several of those colors in it?????
Or, maybe a 1 1/2" border of the orange fabric with a 4 1/2" border of red????

I am sorry about the breakup of your marriage, and glad you have someone there to support you. Both quilts are lovely! I would choose two of the quilt colors and do a narrow border and a wider border. Perhaps use the mottled taupe for one, and then one of the bolder colors. Audition them to see which position you like them in best. And good luck.

Those are really nice! You have some good ideas already. Also, what about a border of the background colour so the other colours continue to "pop"?

On the first one, do you have enough of each of the fabrics to finish the design like the left and top are? Carry the last colour up to the next one, etc.

Nice quilts. Like idea of added boarders using 2 of the colors in the quilt!

So sorry of the change in your life, best wishes and you are very lucky to have such a good friend.

I think the first quilt looks nice as it, and a binding is how I would finish it off. Granted that might give it more of a modern look. But the boldness of it is what I like and to me borders would take away from that. Right now I see the design as endless maybe like the friendship you have with her.

As for the bow tie, I love it, that is one of my favorite patterns. Great colors.

    The best to you.
