Need advice on quilting a "Think outside the bos"
#1
I am quilting this top for my grandson for a graduation gift that he will get at Christmas, so he can use it during the last half of his senior year. My question is, should I do the ovals only going up and down the quilt, or should I also do them going across. I am showing the penciled diagram and some of the quilting that I have done.
Thanks for all help and advice. Always good to have so many minds to help me make up mine.

This is the pencil sketch of going up and down, or adding the going across stitching You will have to click on the download to get it to show up. sorry about that.

Actually, to me it would look like a Sashiko design.
See the Stencil SW1002 (first row, last one on the right):

Except on point.
Very cool.

That's a coincidence - I'm halfway through the fmq on one, also in blues! I'm sorta "feathering" to soften all the lines too, although would be a bit feminine for a lad.
I would stick with one direction to avoid the "flower" effect. You could add some additional quilting in that direction instead too.
Here's what I'm doing

I like the complete circles and didn't really see flower petals, more a double wedding ring design, but surely he won't see that. If you have plans for some additional quilting between the single lines, go for it, so long as the quilt is stable enough for a boy, even a grown one, you should be okay. You want the quilt to last for a long time, so consider what that would take.
