I like the fabric and think just the border without the added blocks would look great.

I think it adds interest to the border just the way you have it.

Sorry I don't think the border does justice to the quilt Try a dark color so that the focus stays on all those wonderful blocks in the center-if you haven't done the backing yet maybe you could use the gold bamboo leaves there???

I really like it, that little touch of gold in the border just sets it all off. Very pretty quilt.

The fabric seems to suit the theme of your lovely quilt. I think that it would go well. Ultimately it is your choice and whatever you choose, it will look lovely! Best wishes.

It is a start. Try laying a narrow 1" strip of red between the narrow black border and the gold leaf material just to experiment. I like the quilt center and think maybe the outer border overpowers the beauty of the patchwork. keep auditioning fabric till you find one that you really fall in love with. Some times what we thinkwill work just doesn't . hope you come to a choice. I want to see it finished. Great top!
    peace

Also, we really can't see the quilt. Any chance for a picture of it, more full on ... perhaps stand on a chair/ladder and shoot down? Or pin to your curtains? or?

That being said, some thoughts would be ...
After the black that you already have on there, a 1/4" flange in a colour you want to have pop from the quilt. Then more of the black, about 2 or 3 times wider than the first black.
I agree, another small border in a color from the quilt and then a wide plain black border would be fabulous...

I lived in Japan for three years, and love your quilt, it looks so very Japanese - I think the bamboo leaf border is perfect, with just a few blocks thrown in randomly help keep if from being too predictable. I don't think the pattern detracts from the center at all, it is almost a glitzy neutral, very true to the Japanese design sensibility and the black tonal strips keep it from getting too wild and rambunctious. Now when you finish it, just PM me and I will give you my home address
