Need ideas for border - log cabin project
I finished sewing the blocks together this morning, now am in a quandary about what to do for a border. Maybe you can give me some ideas? The black strips weren't planned. I had intended to use the same fabric as the other dark fabric, but I cut them too short (wasn't paying attention) so I substituted the black for the last strip. Makes it look rather interesting, I think. Am giving you a couple of views, one of the left side, the other in the center.

No, the fabric with yellow in it is part of the square. I tend to agree with you on the colors. it needs something other than black. Just hoping I have enough red to make some thin strips.

I am thinking a wide-ish band of black, then a narrow band of purple (or red or green) then bind in black or whatever colour you didn't use for the narrow strip (sorry if this doesn't make sense...bit of a long day).
Anyway, can you show us what you decide....it looks lovely so far....

My choice would be a narrow band of red, followed by a wide band of a coordinating border or all over print. I have a couple of Jenny Beyer's fabrics that would work well and an almost paisley in red on black that I would use if it were mine.

When I made a log cabin I used all autumn colors and did 5 borders - one red, one brown, one flying geese (made from all the "log" fabrics on ivory) then one brown and one red. In the corners I used ivory blocks with appliqued cabins on them. Here is a photo of it.

I think I'm going to go with a cranberry (it matches a color in the flowers), then a border in black around the edge. Next up is deciding on a backing fabric.
