there isn't much more aggrivating than your bed covers being too short, pulling up and your feet sticking out... unless it is really long-long i would leave it. its hard to tell with it on the floor instead of the bed; but it is nice to have a little extra length.

what you are seeing and thinking are little frames is just the seam allowances showing through in the picture, once it is layered and quilted those will not be so apparent.

I would probably remove the last border at the top (with 4-patch corners), then quilt and bind it as usual. That way I wouldn't have to sacrifice the pattern of the beautiful pieced border hanging evenly around the bed.

The log cabin quilt I made for my DD was like that. She decided it would look fine with no border on the top (that part will be under the pillow shams). So I just left that one off. No one has noticed yet.
