Need your eye for this 20 floral fabric spread for a Bargello
#41
I've done a few Bargello, certainly not an expert, but I did notice a few fabrics that might cause a problem.
First ... what is the smallest size strip that you will be cutting?
Second ... what is the largest size color change on any given fabric that you are looking at?
If the answer to the second question is larger than the answer to the first question - then you have a problem.
Looking at the last picture you posted on page two, counting from the left, fabrics 7, 13, and 18 might have a larger print size/color change than your smallest bargello strip. Take for example the yellow, red and orange daisy's on the green background. If those daisy's measure 2" and the background green is 2", but your SMALLEST bargello strip is cut 1" or smaller - SOME of those bargello squares will be yellow - some orange - and some green (and some all of the above). It will break the flow.
So take a look at those three and find your measurements. You can't fussy cut it so that some of all three colors show, or mostly one and a bit of the others. You WILL have some places where it will read "green, green, green, green, then BAM orange".
Oh, and if it helps at all ... it's not unusual for me to make a dozen or more fabric changes before I say "ahhhhhhhh" (or "I give up" :) )
Hope this helps, and I can't wait to see the finished product!! Bargello is one of my favorite quilts to work.

Major changes... almost started from scratch. I took the darker multi colored one out--and kept the large floral between colors it'd match with no matter what shows up. I put some fabrics back in I thought muddled things up--but put solid-like pieces between them. I made sure fabrics with green were spread throughout. Still reads watercolor rather than contrast... but it'll be interesting to see what happens.
I'm not 100% this is "the one" but it gets closer.
Thanks for all the ideas--I think I've incorporated every one.

All I can say is, I am totally cross-eyed now from looking and looking and then starting all over again. From your past quilt pictures, I know that your final decision will be the right one and the finished product will be ultimate superb.
